We don't need musicians to run MUSIGA - Dada KD

Veteran highlife singer, Dada Kwaku Duah, has said the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), must not be necessarily be run by musicians.

He said MUSIGA needs people with the necessary business orientation to run their affairs, but not just musicians. According Kweku Duah popularly known as “Dada KD”, no significant strides had been made over the past years with musicians leading the outfit.

He said musicians had over the years made the MUSIGA vissionless, hence the need for drastic changes in their leadership.

“We need business oriented individuals to spearhead activities at the local music body to help it thrive and make it beneficial for all musicians,” he said. ''I don't agree with the idea of allowing only musicians to lead the group even though I envisage another musician taking over again but that is certainly not the right direction to go.

''We need business minded people to take over MUSIGA. We need experts with the requisite managerial skills to run the association, but not musicians who may not have the managerial expertise to run the group,” he added.

Dada KD believes the phenomenon of electing musicians to lead the association, had hindered the progress of Ghanaian music, with issues of conflict of interest derailing the progress of Ghanaian music.

Incumbent president Bice Osei Kuffour, also known as ''Obour'' would exit office in June, with some key musicians including Bessa Simons, Gyedu-Blay Ambolley and Richie Mensah all expressing interest in the presidency of MUSIGA.
