Reggae and dancehall artiste Samini has said that he deserves to be
crowned the ‘Artiste of the Decade’ at the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music
Awards (VGMA)
Musicians, Becca, Efya, Joe Mettle, No Tribe,
Okyeame Kwame, R2Bees, Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, and Stonebwoy complete the
list of entertainers eying the Artiste of the decade plaque.
Speaking
at the VGMA Experience Concert which took place at the Black Star
Square on Saturday, May 11, Samini said he stood tall among all the
artistes nominated in the ‘Artiste of the decade’ category.
“I
have been around for more than a decade and I have been relevant. Ever
since I dropped Linda in 2006 till now, I have constantly come out with
good songs and I think I deserve to win the Artiste of the Decade,” he explained.
The ‘My own’ hitmaker has also been nominated in Album of the Year,
Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year and Reggae/Dancehall Song of the
Year categories.
Samini won the Best African Act at the 2006 MOBO
Awards and has since won several awards including Gifted Reggae
Dancehall Video Artiste in 2011, Kwame Nkrumah Award (Artiste Of The
Year) at the Bass Awards, Best Performer at the MTV Africa Music Awards
among others.
