UEW to reopen Monday April 8; sacked lecturers reinstated

The Governing Council of the University of Education, Winneba, has directed the managment of the school to reopen on Monday April 8,2019.
The University has been shut for close to three weeks following an impasse between some lecturers and the Vice Chancellor Professor Afful-Broni which sparked students protest.
The council has further  reinstated the three lecturers who were sacked by the Vice Chancellor after some disagreements.
The decision was reached after a meeting at the University today.
Meanwhile, the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has called for the immediate resignation of the Chairman of the governing council of the University of Education Winneba, Professor Nicholas Abakah.
UTAG has also called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to intervene in the impasse at the University.
It is the latest in a string of developments that have followed the violent students’ demonstration which resulted in the indefinite shutdown of the University.
UTAG which had earlier called for the resignation of the Vice Chancellor Professor Afful Bronie, is now calling on the Ministry of Education, EOCO and the Special Prosecutor to launch a full scale probe into the allegations of victimization levelled against the Vice Chancellor.
UTAG wants a neutral person to take over the running of the school until all the issues are resolved.
